Air Fryer Recipe Books (updated)

If you are looking for air fryer recipe books, you will be hard pressed to find many! I can only find three, and one of those seems to be an electronic edition only (e.g. for the Kindle). So, if there are any budding authors out there, why not think about producing your own? This appears to be what one enterprising cook has done! One author was quite quick off the starting blocks when the Tefal Actifry was launched. This author, Paul Brodel, has produced two books which have become popular because of the lack of suitable books and recipes for both the Philips and Tefal air fryers. These are entitled Hot Air Fryer and Hot Air Frying & More. The Kindle book is called The Actifry Cookbook. To be fair, all these books are more aimed at the Actifry given it has been around for longer and there is a desperate need for more for the Philips Air Fryer in particular. However, let’s take a quick look at what is available and if you want to take a closer look at either of them, just follow the links or click on the pictures for more information.

365 Days of Air Fryer Recipes: Quick and Easy Recipes to Fry, Bake and Grill with Your Air Fryer

The Only Air Fryer Cookbook You’ll Ever Need Includes a PDF file with photos of all the recipes Hot Air Frying: A Surprising Way to Cook Your Food Whether you are yet to buy an air fryer or you already own one,

Hot Air Fryer – Paul Brodel 68 pages of recipes from stir fry’s to classic dishes and desserts. Starters Chips & Variations Garlic Mushrooms in a Creamy Sauce Hot Coronation Chicken Honey & Mustard Sausages Ratatouille Roast Potatoes Roasted Tomato Soup Roasted Vegetables Scallops & Bacon with a Pea Puree Tomato & Bacon Sauce Mains Chicken Livers & Bacon Chicken Provençal Chicken Teriyaki Chicken Tikka Masala Curried Lamb Chops Duck in Orange Sauce Halibut & Prawns Meatballs in a Tomato Sauce Mixed Bean Chilli Pea & Bacon Risotto Pork Fillet with Broccoli Potato & Bacon Breakfast Satay Chicken Sausages in Red Wine Gravy Spanish Chorizo with Potato Steak in a Pepper Sauce Sweet & Sour Chicken Desserts Caramelized Bananas Cheats Crumble Mango, Cinnamon & Honey Raspberry Compote for Trifle. Reviews are mixed, some find the recipes good, and others suggest there should be more recipes. As mentioned previously, this was really written for the Tefal Actifry and as such, some recipes won’t be suitable for the Philips Air Fryer.

Hot Air Fryer & More – Paul Brodel If you have a Philips Air Fryer you may find more recipes that you can use in this edition as it attempts to cater for both fryers although the jury may still be out on how successfully this is done. 67 pages covering a range of recipes including, shredded duck for pancake rolls, Thai green curry wings, Mango chicken, Tandoori lamb, boozy cherry pancakes and upside down apple crumble for example. Both of these books are not “high gloss” type books, but are useful basics for at a low price.

The Actifry Cookbook – M Scott This is a new book, so there is not much information available although it seems to be aimed at those with the Actifry. It is said to have an eclectic mix of recipes but there are a couple of repetitions from the Tefal book. That said, you will find recipes for spiced dishes, currys, vegetarian options (hurrah!) and even one to tell you how to cook a full English in your air fryer. I haven’t actually seen this edition and don’t know how many pages or recipes are included. This is available in the Kindle version at £4.64, but as with many electronic books (follow the picture link), you may find some spelling and formatting errors although this doesn’t detract from being able to understand what you should be doing!

The Tefal Actifry cookbook is now available in hard copy at £7.57

Low Fat Air Fryer Recipes

Please check back here regularly for air fryer recipes, or add your own recipes for others to try.

There are many people who are put off hot air fryers as they think they can only do chips in them! Oh how wrong………. If you have poked around this site, you will have already seen the Chicken Tikka Masala video so basically, all you need is a little imagination to adapt some (but not all) of your favourite recipes. Of course there will be some that just won’t work because of the design of the fryers, but I’m sure you will be able to come up with many delicious ideas.

Use even less oil in your chips!

Hot Air Frying

If you want to get rid of even more oil when cooking your chips, try just spraying them with fry-light or similar. This is only one calorie per spray!

If you are familiar with the Slimming World diet, they advocate parboiling chunky chips and then putting them on a tray, spraying them with oil and turning them over half way thru cooking. You can do these in the Actifry or Philips Airfryer without parboiling or turning over (still need to shake the pan halfway through in the Philips though).

Don’t forget your roast potato and parsnips in the Actifry as well…  Oh Yes, if you freeze your own Yorkshire puddings or buy them ready frozen, you can throw them in your Philips Air Fryer for a couple of minutes instead of putting the oven on. Give them the usually shake and watch you don’t over do them – it’s quick!

Give this a try in your air fryer today and see what you think!

Variations on Chips and Wedges

You can jazz up your chips and wedges with the simple addition of some extras.

Try crumbling an oxo cube (any flavour) in the oil before you pour it over.

Or, add any of the following to the oil to vary the taste.

Crushed garlic
tsp mixed dried herbs
tsp paprika
tsp cracked black pepper

De’Longhi Hot Air Roto Fry

The Roto fry is also a hot air fryer and uses less oil than conventional air fryers. However, they work differently. While the Tefal and the Philips require at most, a spoonful of oil to cook and brown the food, the Roto Fryer dips food in and out of hot oil, using hot air in between dipping. Because of this process, there is less oil involved but quite a bit more than is used with the low fat machines.

The De’Longhi F28311 Roto Fryer is an innovative take on deep frying, with a unique angled, rotating basket that uses only half the oil of a standard 1 kg capacity fryer, creating perfectly fried food. In addition, the Roto Fryer has a patented ‘Easy Clean System’, which means there’s a built-in drain hose to remove the oil, a convenient solution to the mess that is sometimes created when clearing away fryers.

The F28311 has an adjustable thermostat ranging from 150 to 190 degrees centigrade and a ready-to-cook indicator light to show when the fryer is at the desired temperature. The fryer basket can be raised or lowered with the lid closed and the practical viewing window will allow you to monitor the cooking process without opening the lid. When the food is ready there is an automatic lid release button, the lid can be removed and washed, the oil drained away and the non-stick bowl can be easily cleaned. The lid contains a replaceable anti-odour filter and the fryer has cool touch walls so the outside remains cooler than metal body fryers, making it easy to move or tidy away after use.

Estimates by users suggest it uses about one third of the oil of conventional fryers which is still far more than the low fat air fryers. However, the manufacturers suggest it uses half the oil. Either way, the cost of the Roto Fry is considerably less so if money is an issue, go for this one.

Independent review….

I bought this fryer a few weeks ago, and although I’ve only used it three or four times, so far I’m very impressed. It makes brilliant chips considering it only takes a third of the oil of my old fryer.
I was going to go for the Tefal that boasts only needing a teaspoon of oil, but I was put off by reliability reports, plus it is reported to be noisy and slow. This Delongi is neither!
